This easy homemade fudge recipe only requires three ingredients! You can certainly add more ingredients but the basic fudge recipe only takes 3.
Fudge is a perfect treat for the holiday season or any time. And don’t get me wrong I love a good homemade Old Fashioned Fudge. But this recipe tastes amazing as well, is super simple to make, and is the perfect fudge to make if you don’t have very much time. And there is less of a chance of getting grainy fudge.
If I can make it you can make it! Let’s get started! You can find more awesome easy dessert recipes here.
Gather the ingredients and tools for this easy chocolate fudge recipe
First, get your simple ingredients and tools together. For this easy homemade 3 ingredients fudge recipe you will need:
- Sweetened condensed milk – this will help add flavor and body to the fudge.
- Butter – Butter is an important part of the fudge it adds a nice flavor. You can leave it out and do this fudge with only two ingredients, but it won’t taste quite as good.
- Chocolate – and the star of this fudge recipe is the chocolate. I generally like to add a combination of milk chocolate chips and semi-sweet, but you can use all dark chocolate, all semi-sweet, or all milk chocolate if you like.
Optional Ingredients
- Vanilla extract – this is optional but will add some additional flavor to the fudge.
- Chopped nuts – walnuts are a classic choice for fudge so you can certainly add them in if you like.
- Mini marshmallows – for a type of rocky road fudge.
Tools:
- Large Microwave Safe Bowl
- spatula
- spoon – Just us a normal metal or wooden spoon
- parchment paper
- kitchen spray (optional, helps to keep the parchment paper in the pan)
- 11×9 or 9×9 pan (depending on how thick you want your fudge)
NOTE: A candy thermometer is not needed for this quick fudge recipe.
How to make homemade fudge with 3 ingredients
Now combine your sweetened condensed milk and your butter in a large microwave-safebowl. Then heat it up in the microwave for 2 to 3 minutes until the butter has melted and the mixture is hot, I usually give it a good stir at the 1-minute mark.
NOTE: You can certainly heat it on the stovetop burner instead of using a microwave. No double boiler is needed, however.
Chocolate time
Now add in your chocolate. This recipe is awesome you can use all semi-sweet chocolate chips if you like, or all milk chocolate, or all dark chocolate, or a combination of all of them, as long as you have around 400 grams total.
Place the chocolate in the hot condensed milk and butter mixture, and push it down a little bit with a spoon, then just let it sit for 3 to 4 minutes in the hot liquid. Similar to if you were making a chocolate ganache with hot cream and chocolate.
Stir the chocolate
Next, after the chocolate has bathed in the sweetened milk, take a spatula or spoon and start to mix, the chocolate. It should combine very easily with the liquid.
Once all melted and combined, the mixture will resemble a frosting or brownie batter.
Put the easy homemade fudge in a pan
Now let’s take an 8×11 or 9×9 pan and add some parchment paper to it, I like to spray the bottom of the pan first with kitchen spray, this just helps the parchment paper stick to it.
Next, pour your chocolate mixture into the pan and smooth it out with your spatula. Then all you need to do is put it in the fridge for 2 to 3 hours until it sets up completely. Easy as that!
Now take the large piece of fudge out of the pan and cut it up however you like. This dessert is fairly rich, so I generally cut mine up into small squares. Seriously this is probably the easiest fudge recipe you can make. It has an amazing creamy texture and just melts in your mouth.
Enjoy!
How long will this homemade fudge last?
You can store it back in your same pan and just cover it with plastic wrap, put it in Tupperware or other airtight container, or create little gift bundles and give it away. The homemade fudge can be stored in the fridge or at room temperature.
It will last about 1 to 2 weeks at room temperature or 2 to 3 weeks in the fridge. Or you can freeze it as well if you like for up to 3 months.

My wife made old fashioned fudge. She is in heaven now and I tried to make her fudge. Her handwritten recipe had ingredients but no instructions. I cooked it way to long and it was just a puddle in the pan when I poured it. This recipe is so easy. I use a mixture of 100% and 60% cacao chocolate. It is the darkest fudge I have ever tasted but very good. This time I added chopped walnuts. I just spread them on top and just pushed them into fudge after I poured. Thanks MattMatt Taylor

Hello, the recipe looks great and easy. I have a question for you though. Could cocoa powder work in this recipe in place of baker’s chocolate or chocolate chips?Matt Taylor
December 10, 2020 at 10:29 pm·Reply
Hi there, not in this specific recipe, since cocoa powder doesn’t have the cocoa butter in it which helps create this style of fudge. If you only have cocoa powder your best option is to make traditional fudge. 🙂

If you are a medical marijuana user for pain management, this recipe works well with 1/4 cup canna butter instead of reg. Butter. Give it a try, you won’t be sorry.Nice! Great for those that use medical marijuana.

I made this following the recipe, but left out the butter. I’m having a hard time cutting it in squares due to the stickiness. I let it in the fridge overnight. I thought the butter was optional, but maybe not? Help 😨Matt Taylor
November 20, 2023 at 3:37 pm·Reply
Yes the butter is optional. Add a tiny bit of oil to your knife that will help it cut through it. You can also dip it in very hot water. Similar to cutting cheesecake. Did it firm up and set? If it didn’t set properly that could be the problem as well which is do to heating the sweetened condensed milk not hot enough. Although this type of fudge is way less finicky than old-fashioned fudge. It just sounds like you need to try the oil method or hot water.
