This is one of those classic, old fashioned recipes that have been made around the holidays for generations. As a kid, my siblings and I would laugh every time these were made for a party. At that point, we were all immature and anything about balls made us laugh. There were many times I would catch Mom laughing along with us though. Oh, the fun times. Anyway, this is an original Bisquick recipe. Filled with great flavor and a dish you will not forget easily.

This is not a recipe that I suggest making changes to. At least no drastic changes. The meat should remain the same, as should the Bisquick. Spices or herbs could be changed or substituted, but it will completely change how these sausage balls are supposed to taste.
These Sausage Balls were always one of the main appetizers at any given party or gathering for as long as I can remember. They faded out of popularity for a short time, but people like me continue to bring them back to the present time. They are so flavorful, the perfect size to use a toothpick and dip into sauces.
Depending on the other choices of appetizers that have been made, these sausage balls make a great meal also. I like to have miniature cheese biscuits available, along with finger sandwiches that coincide with the other items I have made.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Can I use smoked sausage?
If you can locate and purchase smoked sausage in the ground form, you could use that. This recipe needs to be the ground sausage. So you could use any type or flavor, as long as it is ground up sausage. You could use Italian sausage, spicy sausage or even breakfast sausage.
Can I change the cheese?
I would assume you could. Parmesan and Cheddar have been used in this classic dish for many years. As an experiment, you could try some different cheeses, but I cannot say if your dish will taste as good or not.
